An Evening with Robert and Sharon Prenton Jones, 12th September 2022
Dorchester Camera Club members were treated to a wonderful evening of imaginative and creative extravaganza.
We welcomed two highly proficient and dedicated photographic composite exponents – namely Robert and Sharon Prenton Jones. Both are highly decorated with photographic awards and it was no wonder therefore that their evening - following on from a terrific workshop event the day before was a great success.
The evening started with Robert – a soft spoken man with an Irish lilt, re-iterating the essence of the previous workshop activities. He further explained and demonstrated the art of compositing images into different scenes taking account of perspectives, shadows and more. Robert advocated that rather than berate tourists who get in the way of your photo opportunity, they should be shot instead ! (photographically of course) and include them or at least part of them in your creation. ‘Stealing shadows’ and making life easier with use of ‘Black on Black’ techniques gave all the tool suggestions needed to improve our own efforts.
Roberts wife Sharon supplied the second half of the evening with equal enthusiasm and expertise in the display of her MFIAP presentation of Welsh mythology. Her undoubted capability was further demonstrated by her live creation of ethereal images using layers, masks and the mastery of Adobe Photoshop. It is no surprise that Sharon produces all her own composite image parts and despite Robert saying her work is ‘too misty’ for him – she clearly excels in the art of blending, imagination and creativity.
The conclusion of the evening’s presentation was with a question and answer session and a thoroughly deserved round of applause.
